The Marriage Oracle
Privacy Notice
This notice explains what personal information The Marriage Oracle uses, why it is used, who it is shared with, how long it is kept, and the choices and rights available to you.
1. Who is responsible for your information
Callum Rider operates The Marriage Oracle and is the data controller for personal information used by the service. Samantha Harding acts as legal guardian for business administration. Contact details appear at the end of this notice.
2. Who may use the service
The service is intended for adults aged 18 or over. Please do not create an account, submit quiz answers, or buy a reading if you are under 18.
3. Information we collect
Account information
- Your first name, email address, account identifier, and authentication records.
- Your saved reading status, timestamps, and account preferences.
- Your password is handled by Supabase Auth and is not visible to The Marriage Oracle.
Quiz answers and generated readings
- Answers about personality, lifestyle, values, relationship preferences, and age range.
- Optional answers that may reveal identity, relationship or gender preference, portrait-background preference, and beliefs or traditions.
- The automatically generated result, compatibility score, portrait selection, and reading reference.
These optional answers can include information that data protection law treats as sensitive. We process them only after you give explicit consent. Every relevant question includes a “Prefer not to say” or neutral option where appropriate.
Payment and complimentary-code information
- Payment status, amount, currency, Stripe Checkout references, and unlock status.
- Promo-code redemption records and anti-abuse information.
- Card details are entered on Stripe's secure checkout page. The Marriage Oracle does not receive or store your full card number or security code.
Technical and support information
- Browser, device, IP address, security, error, and function log information produced by service providers.
- Messages and attachments you send to customer service.
4. Why we use your information and our lawful bases
- Contract: to create accounts, save progress, generate readings, take payment, and provide permanent access.
- Explicit consent: to process optional answers that may reveal identity, relationship preference, ethnicity or racial background preference, or beliefs and traditions.
- Legitimate interests: to secure the service, prevent fraud and promo-code abuse, troubleshoot faults, and improve reliability.
- Legal obligation: to keep records required for accounting, taxation, consumer protection, disputes, or law-enforcement requests.
You may withdraw consent for future processing by not starting another reading and by deleting saved readings or your account. Withdrawal does not affect processing that was lawful before withdrawal, and legally required payment records may still be retained.
5. Automated generation
Readings are created automatically from quiz answers using deterministic rules and content pools. This is not a decision that has legal or similarly significant effects. The service does not assess eligibility, credit, employment, insurance, health, or real compatibility.
6. Who receives information
- Supabase: authentication, database storage, server functions, and security logs.
- Stripe: checkout, payment processing, receipts, fraud prevention, refunds, and financial records.
- GitHub Pages: delivery of the public website.
- Google Fonts: delivery of website fonts, which may involve technical request data such as IP address.
- Professional advisers, regulators, courts, or public authorities when reasonably necessary or legally required.
We do not sell personal information and do not use it for targeted advertising.
7. International processing
Some service providers may process information outside the United Kingdom. Where this happens, the provider is expected to use recognised legal safeguards, such as adequacy regulations or approved contractual protections.
8. How long information is kept
- Account profiles and saved readings are kept until you delete them or delete the account.
- Guest progress stays in browser storage until it expires, is cleared, or you clear site data.
- Payment, refund, and accounting records are kept for as long as reasonably required by law and for disputes.
- Support correspondence is normally kept for up to 24 months after the issue is closed, unless a longer period is needed for a dispute or legal duty.
- Security and service logs are kept according to the relevant provider's retention settings.
9. Security
The service uses authenticated accounts, database row-level security, server-side payment verification, signed Stripe webhooks, restricted secrets, and encrypted HTTPS connections. No online system can be guaranteed completely secure, so please use a unique password and contact us promptly if you suspect unauthorised access.
10. Your rights
Depending on the circumstances, you may have rights to:
- access a copy of personal information;
- correct inaccurate or incomplete information;
- erase information;
- restrict or object to processing;
- receive certain information in a portable format;
- withdraw consent; and
- complain to the Information Commissioner's Office.
You can delete individual readings or your account from the account dashboard. For other requests, contact customer service. We may need to verify your identity before responding.
11. Changes to this notice
This notice may be updated when the service, providers, or law changes. A new effective date will be shown at the top, and material changes will be brought to account users' attention where appropriate.
